He may not have made it onto the RTE 1 screens as a leader in the Operation Transformation programme. However, Castleisland Co-Op Mart manager, Richard Harnett is signing up and weighing in to a healthy future at the Abbeyfeale based Shakti Fitness Studio.
The people at the studio were very impressed with Richard’s interviews on RTE Radio 1 with both Miriam O’Callaghan on the John Murray Show and on the Saturday morning CountryWide with Damien O’Reilly.
On both programmes a frankly and openly honest Mr. Harnett told his hosts how a sedentary lifestyle has left him well over his should-be weight. He also told the nation of his heart operation of a few years ago and of his willingness to fight his way back to positive health. The Moyvane native, Castleisland resident also raised a flag – in the course of the interviews – for the many lonely people in isolated areas he visits in the course of his job. It is to the occupants of many of these frightfully hospitable houses that Richard can trace the foundations of the weight problem he’s now waging war on.
Next week Shakti Fitness Studio will start its eight-week ‘Life Changing Transformation Programme’ and they’re looking for 20 individuals from the general locality to take part.
“This is an amazing programme that will change your life and attitude towards health and food forever,” said studio instructor, Maggie Large.
“This isn’t your run of the mill exercise plan with weekly weigh-ins. There’s a lot more to it than that. We will guide you every step of the way with expert instruction, guidance and support on vital matters like: exercise, nutrition, motivation and mindset throughout the programme,” said Maggie.
Both Maggie and proprietor Breda O’Grady have over 20 years of certified experience in the area of health and fitness instruction. Their joint expertise in this and holistic treatments will help you acquire the necessary skills to make exercise part of your lifestyle. They guarantee that the experience will be of benefit to those who take part well after the eight-week programme has run its course.
“Here at Shakti Fitness & Wellness Studios we believe that the secret to living a healthy life and having a body you just love to flaunt is not just eating lots of fruit and veg which of course is vital for optimum health but to change your mind-set towards healthy living and make it a habit that you choose to do every day for the rest of your life. Your body is designed to move and in order for it to function properly and for you to feel good it’s important to exercise regularly and shift your metabolism to a constant fat-burning mode.
“We are delighted to have expert help and support from one of Ireland’s top nutritionists, Andrea Cullen. Andrea has worked very closely with the likes of: Munster Rugby teams; Sonia O’ Sullivan; Derval O’Rourke; Paul Hession and Gillian O’Sullivan to name but a few. She uses a comprehensive approach that looks at what is going on in the body, using specialist tests and, if necessary, addressing the findings using nutrition and other practical health strategies,” – according to the studio.
“This will make a significant difference to you. Unlike many other practitioners, this method aims to get to the root of the problem by not using supplements or extreme elimination diets as a ‘Band-Aid’ solution. Eating a diet insufficient in vegetables, proteins, healthy fats and antioxidant rich foods leads to an inability to achieve optimal athletic performance and, worse still, will lead to chronic health problems.
So, our overall aim is to help give you the tools necessary to change your behaviour and attitude towards food forever,” – they claim.
They have limited the involvement in this programme to 20 places and that allotment is going at a rapid rate. They still have a handful of slots to fill before they launch into their life-changing activities.
We wish Richard good luck on his journey back to good health and look forward to following his progress.
