The Castleisland U-16 Girls’ Community Games Basketball team will represent Munster this weekend in Athlone at the National finals.
McCarthy Insurance Group are proud sponsors of the team. Norma O’ Connor on behalf of the group presented the girls with playing gear.
The team has worked hard all year to secure its place in the county, provincial and All-Ireland finals.
Munster V Ulster on Saturday
The Castleisland girls will meet Ulster champions, Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal in the semi-final on Saturday and the playoffs/final will take place on Sunday.
The team coaches are: Denny Porter, George O’Connor and Aoife Nolan.
Team members are drawn from Castleisland, Cordal and Scartaglin: Captain, Labhaoise Walmsley, Kayla O’Connor,
Nicole Downey, Moya Sheehan, Aoife O’ Connor, Brid Moriarty, Hannah O’Connor, Sarah O’Sullivan, Siobhan Collins and Anna Lynch.
Kingdom Badminton Boys Prepare
Meanwhile, at the other end of the town, the Kingdom Badminton Club sends its best wishes to a Lorna Keane coached team of U-15 boys and two terriers as they also prepare to represent Munster in the All-Ireland Community Games Finals in Athlone.
The team is comprised of: Lorna Keane, coach; Dylan Browne, Josh Horan, Peter Burke, Kevin Keane with team mascots, Patrick Roche and Patch Keane.

We wish them all and their supporters well with the hope that the annual, post games parade of cars and horn-blowing ceremony will be seen and heard again in Castleisland on Sunday evening.
