Miles are being travelled, Nails are being bitten to the quick, chests will be clutched and pints drank in a subconscious motion as Kerry teams take to the field in Croke Park this afternoon.
May the teams of boys and men under the care of Jack O’Connor and Eamonn Fitzmaurice both do what they did this time last year. Good luck to all who strive to uphold the cultural and sporting pride of The Kingdom.
My boyhood friend, Con Brosnan and myself thumbed our way to Croke Park on the Saturday of the 1975 All-Ireland final between the reigning champions, Dublin and the young challengers, Kerry.
We were well used to the road by then as we travelled on foot and by car to the Munster final and All-Ireland semi-final of that year. Good luck to all on the road today – with an extra lick to both Kerry teams.
There was good news from Dublin yesterday evening and it was passed on to me by my grand-niece Erika Cronin through the wonderful world of mobile technology. Fingers crossed now.
