The death has occurred of James Courtney, Castlegregory, Co. Kerry. Mr. Courtney (94) a retired member of Kerry County Council, passed away peacefully in the loving care of the staff at Saint Louis Nursing Home, Tralee.
Predeceased by his loving wife Rita. Sadly missed by his nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, brother-in-law, relatives and many friends. Rest in Peace.
The late James Courtney first stood in the 1955 local elections as a candidate for Clann na Talmhan in the Tralee Electoral Area.
He was elected to Kerry County Council on the following elections in 1960 and he represented the Tralee Electoral Area as an Independent.
He continued to serve as an Independent on the council without a breach until he stepped down at the 1999 local elections.
He was a councillor for the Mid-Kerry Electoral Area from 1985 to 1991.
He was the ‘Father of the Council’ at the centenary of the formation of Kerry County Council in 1999. May God be good to him.
Funeral Arrangements
Reposing at Lynch’s Funeral Home, Castlegregory on Thursday, 8th. September, 2016 from 5pm to 8pm, followed by removal to St. Mary’s Church, Castlegregory, Co. Kerry. Requiem Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Castlegregory, Co. Kerry on Friday, 9th September, 2016 at 12 noon and burial afterwards in Killiney Cemetery.
