U-15 Ladies County Championship A Quarter Final
Castleisland Desmonds 4-8 Laune Rangers 4-7
Desmonds Ladies U-15 side grasped victory from the jaws of defeat when the accounted for an excellent Laune Rangers side in the County Championship A quarter final played in Castleisland on Friday evening. Desmonds went in at the half time break trailing by two points despite having the lion’s share of possession in the first half.
Costly Lapses
A couple of costly lapses of concentration in defence gifted the Killorglin girls two goals to put an unfair reflection on the scoreboard. The second half was an enthralling contest with good, fast paced, end to end football being played throughout. Desmonds had numerous chances to pull ahead of their opponents but wasteful shooting in front of goal was letting them down.
Trailing by four points with five minutes left on the clock, and looking dead and buried, the Desmonds girls drew on every ounce of determination left in them to play their best football of the evening.
As the Sun Faded
Four points in a row levelled up the game. As the sun faded and went to ground over Pound Road, Desmonds secured victory with a golden point to finish the contest and break the Laune Rangers girl’s hearts.
While it would be unfair to single out any members of the Desmonds squad as it was the ultimate team performance.
Special mention must go to Ruth Cahill who travelled especially from Listowel Races Ladies Day to play a huge part in Desmonds victory.
They now play Rathmore this coming Thursday, September 22nd Throw in at 6:15pm.
Desmonds squad: Kayla O’Connor, Roisin Brosnan, Tara Murphy, Saoirse Murphy, Grace Curtin, Jessie O’Doherty-Cahill, Gemma Kearney, Aisling Kearney, Sinead Murphy, Abbey Brosnan, Paris McCarthy, Sadbh Prendiville, Ruth Cahill, Emma O’Regan, Marney Horan, Áine Sheehan, Katie O’ Connor, Alex Sheehan and Chloe Cahill.
