Castleisland Desmonds U-14 girls produced a magnificent display when they defeated old rivals Ballymacelligott by 10 points on a scoreline of 1-14 to 1-4 in the North Kerry Plate final played in Ballyrickard Tralee on Monday.

It was, arguably, Desmonds best display of the season as they played with discipline and composure throughout the game and took their chances when they presented themselves. Desmonds had won the County League Division 2 title earlier in the season so to add a North Kerry trophy as well was a great bonus for this dedicated bunch of young footballers.

Unbeatable On The Day

The defence was teak tough with Shauna Kissane in goals solid throughout. Gemma Kearney Jessie Cahill and Abbey Brosnan were magnificent, while Sadbh Prendiville, Sinead Murphy, Grace Curtin and Katie O’Connor were unbeatable on the day.

At midfield Aoife Lane and Paris McCarthy dominated throughout the contest. In the forwards Emma O’Regan Áine Sheehan, and Grace Cahill had their scoring boots on, while Marney Horan, Lily Cox and Ava Fitzmaurice were brilliant on link and breaking ball.

Ciara McCarthy, Aisling Kearney and Chloe Cahill all came on to play their part throughout the County league and North Kerry campaigns and with 12 girls eligible for U-14 level again next year the future is bright. Thanks to the trainers Dan Kearney, Eddie Regan and Niall O’Connor.
