The death has occurred of Dan Coffey, (60) Kilcusnin, Cordal, Castleisland, Co. Kerry, March 5th 2017, peacefully at University Hospital Kerry, after a long illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Sadly missed by his loving wife Margaret, daughter Mary, sons Daniel, Damian and his partner Fern, granddaughters Leah and Laurie, brothers Richard and Denis, sister Margaret, all extended family, relatives, neighbours and friends. R.I.P.
Born in 1957
Dan Coffey was born in 1957 and raised by his aunt, Molly Cotter in Kilcusnin, Cordal.
A wild and hearty character and especially in his prime, he enjoyed playing pool in Hickey’s Bar and taking part in tug-of-war competitions across the county.
A gifted mechanic, his put his skills to great use in restoring cars which he was well-known for racing – and not all within the law.
Garda Chase
He liked nothing better that seeing a squad car fading away in his rear view mirror. In fact, one of the highlights for him in those early years was a head-line in The Kerryman which went something like: Gardaí Call off Chase at 95 MPH.
To Dan that was a badge of honour and the court report would be a souvenir he would have kept.
He became involved in farming and, as his passion grew, he became well known throughout Ireland as a Charolais breeder.
Jack-Of-All-Trades
He was known as a jack-of-all-trades and for never leaving a friend or neighbour stuck for help.
If he could do it he would be there and do his upmost to help – no matter what. Many would meet and see him travelling the roads all hours of the day and night with his tractor and bailer always on the go.
Dan was a devoted husband and father to his family. May God be good to him.
