Ballymac Senior Ladies make History: Castlegregory/Annascual 3-7 Ballymacelligott 2-1

Sunday was a historic day for the Ballymacelligott Ladies GAA Club as we fielded a senior ladies team for the first time.

It was the first round of county league Division 4 and the game was held in Annascual.

The home team started in whirlwind fashion and had 2-04 on the board before we got going. The girls settled after that and only conceded a single point for the rest of the half. Halftime score Castle/Annascual 2-5 Ballymac 0-0.

Positional Changes

Following a few positional changes, most notably Grainne Kerins moving to centre back, we started the second half a much better team. There was great drive and determination from the girls. The standard of play improved and we started to play the game on our terms.

Great play from keeper Michelle Lynch and backs Claire Kenny, Niamh Rahilly and Naomi O’Sullivan ensured the away team were reduced to long range shots. Midfielders Una Kerins and Veronica O’Donnell started running at the Annascual backs causing them a lot of problems.

A Deserved Goal

We got a deserved goal from a long range effort by Therese Keane and quickly followed it with a point and a goal from full forward, Emma Sweeney. The girls had a couple of more near misses and finished the game on the front foot.

Lots of positives to take from the game which can be worked upon. Well done to all the girls and the loyal group of supporters who made the trip.

The Ballymacelligott team: Michelle Lynch, Naomi O’Sullivan, Claire Kenny, Maeve O’Sullivan, Leah O’Neill, Rose Ann O’Shea, Niamh Rahilly, Veronica O’Donnell (C), Una Kerins, Mary Healy, Grainne Kerins, Rachel Godley, Heather Jones, Emma Sweeney and Therese Keane.

Minor Match Report: Glenflesk 4—13 Ballymac 2—3

Glenfesk were our opponents in this second county league fixture. Barraduff was the venue for the game which was played in almost ideal conditions. We lined out without seven of our regular team and this made our task extremely difficult. It was all Glenfesk early on and two goals around midway had them firmly in control. Dara Reagan pointed from a free after Cathal was fouled and Tadhg Brick pointed from a Diarmuid Lynch pass our only score,s of the half .We got through on a few more occasions but didn,t score. Our opponents goaled again just before half time and were 3-7 to 0-2 ahead at the break. We fared a bit better in the second half Josh O’Keeffe converting a penalty when Barry Lyons was brought down. A long range free by Josh was fisted out by the opposing goalie and Cathal Dunne was on hand to finish to the net. Barry pointed from a free meanwhile Glenfesk were adding another 1-6 to their tally to run out easy winners. Along with those already mentioned Eddie Rodgers, Dylan Dunne Moriarty, and Brian Lonergan tried hard on a very dissapointing day.

Our next county league fixture is at home to Beaufort on the 25th march.
