Congrats to Eddie Horan and Seán O’Connell
Cordal GAA Club would like to send its congratulations to our Cordal/Scart minors, Eddie Horan and Sean O’Connell on their call-up to the Kerry minor squad.

 Eddie and Seán  have made the Kerry minor squad for this year’s All-Ireland championship.

The team began the defense of its title on Wednesday evening.

They played Clare in Tralee in the Electric Ireland Munster Minor Football Championship Quarter Final and qualified for the semi final with a 2-16 to 1-6 win.

The game was preceded by a minute of silence for the late Vincent Linnane who was the ‘kit man’ for generations of Kerry teams down through they years. The late Vincent was part of the furniture of Austin Stack Park and a loyal servant of the game in Kerry. May he Rest in Peace.

Lisa McHugh Concert Launch at Hughes’ Bar
The rescheduled launch night for the Lisa McHugh Concert will now take place on Saturday April 29th. at 9:30pm in Hughes’ Bar, Cordal.

On the night plans for the Lisa McHugh Concert will be officially launched. This concert will take place in Castleisland Community Centre on Friday, July 28th and will include an appearance from Tom Jive as well as Lisa McHugh.

All are welcome to the Grand Launch at Hughes’ on Saturday 29th. The first tickets will go on sale for the event on the night. Bring your cowboy hats and country western costumes on the night too.

Cordal 3-18 – Valentia Young Islanders 1-11.

Cordal journeyed out to Valentia Island to play Round Three of the Division Five County League against Valentia Young Islanders on Sunday.

The game kicked off at 6:40pm and Cordal led by four points at half time with 0-10 to Valentia’s 0-06.

A Hard Game

Cordal were very strong coming out the gate of the second half. They had a strong lead of thirteen points at the final whistle with 3-18 to Valentia’s 1-11.

The first half got into the swing of things straight away, showing both teams were in for a hard game.

Valentia pointed for the first score of the game whilst Cordal moved in with three early points in the first quarter scored by Kieran O’Donoghue, Philip O’Connor and Philip Griffin.

Valentia’s number eleven scored all but one of their six points of the half whilst Cordal kept the points coming with a further two by Brian Reidy and five, including the final point of the half, by Philip O’Connor.

Four Point Gap

Half time left only four points between the two teams with Cordal with the lead at 0-10 and Valentia Young Islander’s 0-06.

Philip O’Connor kicked off the second half with a point scored in the third minute. Billy Cronin scored a goal in the sixth minute widening Cordal’s lead.

Sean Walsh added a point to Cordal’s tally in the tenth minute but Valentia weren’t long knocking back Cordal’s lead after getting a goal out of an unexpected penalty.

Sean Óg O’Ciardubháin scored a point for Cordal from a free in the 24th minute. Kieran O’Donoghue made use of the match’s second penalty of the half, tapping the ball through the left corner of the Valentia goals.

An Impressive Finish

Cordal dished out an impressive finish to the match with a goal scored by Philip Griffin that was set up by Kieran Enright in the 30th minute.

Brian Reidy took the final score of the game, a point in the 32nd minute.

The referee blew the whistle leaving Cordal with another league win at 3-18 to Valentia’s 1-11.

Well done Cordal on a third County League win in a row. Here’s hoping for another good performance in the Championship game next week against Beale.

Cordal V Beale: Cordal will play Beale in Round 1 of the County Junior Championship. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:30pm this Sunday in Cordal.
