Great Evening Had By All at U-6 Friendly
On Friday, June 16th and in front of a large crowd on a lovely’s Summer evening we saw our near neighbours Cordal play Desmond’s in a friendly U-6 match.
There was great excitement as, for some of these boys and girls, it was their very first game of football and a great night was had by all.
Castleisland Desmonds V John Mitchels County League Division 1
Castleisland Desmonds seniors suffered their fifth defeat in a row when they played John Mitchel’s here at home on Saturday evening, June 17th. They stay rooted to the bottom of the Division 1 table of the County League.
The game was played in front of a large crowd on a lovely summer’s evening – but John Mitchels went away with the spoils.
Desmonds, like the previous week’s game against Dr.Crokes, played very well in the first half and went in at half time down only two points. With the scoreboard reading 0-8 to 0-6 at the time.
Desmonds scores coming from Cian O’Connor 0-4 and one each from Brian Leonard and Kieran Brennan.
But the Mitchel’s scores came from the very impressieve James Duggan playing at corner forward scoring 0-4 – with two of these from frees.
There were also points from Sean Moloney, Jack Myers and two from the boot of Alan O’Donoghue.
This game was going to be hard for the home side if they were to get their first win in this year’s county league.
The second half started with a bang with the men from Tralee scoring a goal in the second minute by Alan O’Donoghue and this was followed by two very good points from play by Mitchels midfielder, Shane O’Connor in the sixth and seventh minutes and the game looked over for the men in the white and blue jerseys.
Desmonds didn’t score till the 10th minute of the half with a free from Cian O’Connor and we saw three more scores from Mitchel’s Alan O’Donoghue, Sean Moloney and Shane O’Connor and it was now 0-7 to 1-13 to Mitchels.
In the 23rd Desmonds player Tadhg O’Connell suffered a bad shoulder injury to add to Desmond’s troubles and with the home defence split open we saw Mitchel’s score three more scores from Stephen O’Mahony, Alan O’Donoghue and, from Man of the Match, James Duggan and they finished on 1-16 to Desmonds 0-09
