Kerry Samaritans had 35, 909 contacts in 2016. These contacts included telephone calls, emails and people who called to the branch centre.

That’s according to a recruitment call from the organisation which receives a call every six seconds.

Calls Increased Dramatically

“Since the introduction of the free to caller number in 2014 our calls have increased dramatically as removing the cost barrier has made it easier for people to access our support.

Samaritans have 13 branches in the Republic of Ireland and volunteers are available round the clock 365 days a year for anyone who feels they need to talk in confidence about whatever is troubling them. Every six seconds someone makes a call to Samaritans.

Here to Listen

“We’re here to listen to anyone who feels they need to talk about whatever is worrying them without the fear of being judged, the free phone number for the Samaritans is 116123.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer and can afford to spare 3 hours per week then the Kerry branch of the Samaritans is urgently looking to recruit new volunteers and will hold an information night on the coming Monday, October  9th. at 7-30 pm at the centre at 43-44 Moyderwell Tralee. For enquiries please call Josephine on 087 91 58 779.
