Division One Men

St. Mary’s Basketball Club’s Division One men had a close encounter with St. Paul’s at Castleisland Community Centre on Sunday.

The game was a cracker and came down to the wire but unfortunately it was the visitors who took the win by four points in the dying minutes.

It was great to see Seamus Brosnan back with the club.

Seamus put in a huge performance and was top scorer on a massive 35 points.

Final score: St. Mary’s 63 St. Paul’s 67

Big National Cup Game at the Weekend

St. Mary’s senior ladies will meet Templeogue in the first round of the National Cup on Sunday, October 29th in Castleisland Community Centre. Tip-off is at 3:30pm.

Congrats to Paudie Fleming

Congratulations to club development officer Paudie Fleming who has been appointed as head coach of the South Regional Academy for boys and girls.

The regional academy will take the place of the development squads.

The goal of this new structure is to produce better players at a younger age. Paudie is one of nine development officers whose role will be to implement the structure and curriculum.

Division Two Ladies Secure Second Win

St. Mary’s division two ladies made it two from two on Sunday when they had a comprehensive win over neighbours St. Anne’s.

The home side opened a nine point lead in the first quarter having had a spread of scores while for St. Anne’s it was DD O’Sullivan who was the sole scorer.

They continued to build on their lead in the second period despite having to break a solid man to man defence.

Roisín Casey was unstoppable under the boards ensuring that the visitors got no second chances. St. Mary’s led 31 points to 12 at the half time interval.

The third quarter saw a comeback by St. Anne’s but it was the home team who once again took the quarter by a point.

Mary’s pushed ahead in the final period, all players now having contributed to the final tally, the only three of the game coming in this quarter from St. Mary’s Louise Joyce who was top scorer for the game. Final score: St. Mary’s 61 St. Anne’s 34
