All Ireland Minor Celebration

Scartaglen GAA Club signed off on 2017 by honouring its rising stars, twin brothers Eddie and Sean Horan in a packed Scartaglen Heritage Centre.

Eddie and Sean were part of the victorious All Ireland four in a row Kerry minor team that won the Tom Markham Cup in 2017.

Family, friends, team-mates and the community gathered together to celebrate what was a fantastic and proud achievement for Eddie and Sean.

Master of Ceremonies for the night was club President Jerome O’Driscoll who provided great professionalism and laughter to the nights proceedings.

Speakers on the night included Scartaglen GAA Club Chairman Denis O’Sullivan who presented the boys with a presentation from the club.

Coiste na nÓg Chairman, Seamus Riordan; St. Kieran’s Chairman Tim Dineen; County Board Delegate James O’ Donoghue and Kerry Minor Manager, Peter Keane.

All speakers congratulated the boys on their achievements while highlighting the importance their success would play in years to come as the younger club members would have role models in which to aspire to.

Peter Keane spoke fondly of the late John Horan, dad of Eddie and Sean, who passed away in September.

He recalled proud memories he shared with him of his sons and their achievements.

Shay Walsh was also acknowledged on the night for his involvement with the Kerry U-17s that won the Munster championship this year.

Refreshments were served for everyone including Scart/Cordal U-14s, U-16s and minors in the kitchen before and after the presentations.

The night began when the Horan twins and Shay Walsh presented East Kerry Medals to the victorious Scartaglen U-11s and the victorious U-13s and U-14s Scartaglen/Cordal teams.

The club also acknowledged its past club players who have represented the Kerry at minor level. They included: Patsy O’Connor,1966; John Murphy, 1973; , Fr. John Kerin, 1973; Seanie O’Leary, 1976; Joe Casey, 1987; John Walsh, 1988; Padraig Reidy, 2003 and 2004.

The ballad Willie Mac Bride was sung wonderfully by Shay Walsh and he was then joined on stage with his brother Jack for another song.

The night concluded when the club lotto was presented to the lucky winner, John Collins from Scartaglen now living in Clonakility, Co. Cork.

John scooped the jackpot which was €10,400 and he very kindly presented football gifts to both Scartaglen GAA Club and Scartaglen Ladies Club.

The club wishes to thank Scartaglen Heritage Centre for the use of their facilities and all those who helped out on the night.

It was a proud night for everyone, families, friends, Scartaglen GAA Club and the community. Hopefully there are many more to come.
