Gardaí are investigating a serious assault on a local young man in Castleisland since the early hours of this morning.

The assault is believed to have been perpetrated with a blunt instrument and thought to have taken place in St. Stephen’s Park.

Gardai Tight Lipped

The man is in a serious condition in University Hospital Kerry and Gardaí are remaining tight lipped at the scene but have mounted a serious investigation on the area they believe to have been the scene of the assault.

Found Before Dawn

The victim of the assault was found before dawn and the authorities were then alerted by locals.

The victim has been moved to Cork around lunchtime and remains in a serious condition. Gardaí have appealed to residents or witnesses to come forward with any information they may have.

Areas Sealed Off

The estate and parts of the neighbouring St. John’s Park area have been sealed off with limited access only allowed for residents.

Locals have expressed shock at the turn of events in the normally quiet, settled estate which was built in stages throughout the 1970s.

Gardaí can be contacted at Tralee Garda Station on 066 71 02300.
