With an expected 1,000 athletes registering, Tralee International Marathon takes place on Sunday, March 18th. – the day after St. Patrick’s Day.
Tralee Harriers Athletic Club is the host club for the marathon, which includes a 5K and 10k, a half marathon
The club is predicting predicting a great turn out of athletes taking to the streets and hinterlands of Tralee oon the day.
With just aweek to go before this year’s event, people intending to take part are being encouraged to register before the race sells out.
Planning Ahead
Planning ahead, the next race will be The Rose of Tralee 10K on Sunday August 19th and The Valentines 10 miler on weekend of 16thFebruary 16th. 2019
The main sponsors of the marathon series continues to be Kerryseye Newspaper, with: Byrnes Spar; The Tralee Bay Wetlands Centre and Adam’s of Tralee, along with many of the business in Tralee who sponsor trophies, medals and T-shirts along with mile markers and directional signs.

Race Director, Martin Fitzgerald of Tralee Harriers acknowledges the huge levels of support from the people of Tralee and beyond
“They have demonstrated in numbers that the Tralee International Marathon series is now a firm favourite on the Irish sporting calendar. We are grateful to all of our sponsors who have supported the event and the club, with over 60% of all participants coming from outside the Kingdom the estimate is that over €250,000 has been spent by these athletes and their families in Tralee since the race series started,” said Mr. Fitzgerald.
Every Cent Goes back to the Club
Paul Griffin Tralee Harriers PRO said that the marathon series is a fundraising event for the development of the club’s training grounds.
“Every single cent earned goes back into the club. The new lights which have been in use for the past few weeks, came from the races proceeds. This will make training all year round a huge advantage to the club’s athletes who are competitive on both the Munster and national stage.
Tartan Track and Jumps
“We will be finishing laying the current tartan track lanes by the end of the year and the addition of high jump and additional lanes early in 2019.
“This will be funded by a mix of marathon income along with grants and loans,” Paul concluded.
