The annual St Anne’s National School Basketball Blitz took place on Sunday in Farranfore.

Castleisland Boys’ National School Senior team was drawn against St Anne’s Bulls in the first game.

The whole team from Naomh Chárthaigh took to the floor and put in a great performance to beat ‘The Bulls’ on a score line of 16-10.

Next up they faced local school, Gaelscoil Aogáin. This was a very close game but The Boys’ National came out on top on a score line of 18-16.

Top the Group

This victory saw them top the group and go into the first semi-final. In the semi-final they again met St. Anne’s Bulls and won this game 22-13.

Again they found themselves found ourselves facing their previous opponents Gaelscoil Aogáin in the final.

This was a thriller of a game. It was all to play for on both sides. Boys NS got a blistering start and found themselves in a brilliant position at half time leading 8-0.

A Great Comeback

Gaelscoil Aogáin made a great come back and quickly added three baskets to bring their side back into the game 8-6.

From here on it was basket for basket and at one stage the Gaelscoil took the lead for the first time in the match with only minutes remaining.

But the Boys NS showed great courage and determination and weren’t going to back down as they clawed back the lead.

With only seconds they left added another score to secure the win on a score line of 15-12.

Great Rivalry

“Great credit is due to both teams as these boys play together in many different sports and there was great rivalry, teamwork, respect and friendship shown towards each other on the day.

“Congratulations to all our boys and to their coaches who put in a great performance throughout the day,” said a proud Boys’ NS Principal, Marina O’Connor.
