The crows are excited and making every kind of alternative arrangements all morning. They’re the boys and girls that know their weather forecasting.
I’ve never seen a bad storm yet that wasn’t foretold by a bout of aerobatics by these highly intelligent creatures.
Met Éireann has its own means of weather perception and it is tasked in warning us in a very different way.
It has revised its Level Orange Weather Warning for Kerry Update at 11.00am on Thursday, 11 October 2018 as follows:
Status Orange – Wind warning for Kerry
Storm Callum: Southeast winds veering southwest will gust generally between 100 and 130km/h, higher in some coastal areas and on high ground. Along with a spell of heavy rain and high tides there is a risk of coastal flooding and damage.

Advice Reiterated
Kerry County Council’s Local Coordination Group, including representatives of An Garda Síochána, Kerry Fire Services, Kerry Civil Defence and the HSE, met again this morning to make preparations for Storm Callum and has reiterated its advise to members of the public, motorists, business and property owners to be prepared for high winds overnight on Thursday and early on Friday morning.
Risk of Fallen Trees
Given the risk of fallen trees and other obstacles on roads, extreme care should be taken overnight on Thursday and during the morning work and school commute on Friday particularly in coastal areas and on higher ground where gusts are forecast to reach 130km/h.
The council is asking all homeowners, property owners and businesses to secure any loose items of furniture, hoardings, scaffolding, signage and items such as trampolines and bins, which would be vulnerable to strong winds.
Emergency Contact Line
The council has set up an emergency contact line on 066 7183588 which will be available from 10pm tonight and through the night and through which members of the public can report any issues. All serious emergencies should be referred to the emergency services on 999.
Fallen powerlines and electricity issues, where they arise, should be reported to ESB Networks on 1850 372 372.
