Santa’s elves were busy in second year woodwork class at Castleisland Community College under the supervision of their teacher Aidan Joy as they created the spirit of Christmas for all to enjoy.

Pallets that delivered hand sanitisers and paper roll were reused and up-cycled into snowmen and Christmas trees.

Broken Up and Re-Arranged

The pallets were broken up, arranged, cut into shape and re-assembled in class. They were painted and then placed outside on school grounds.

“Sustainability and protection of the environment is strongly promoted and Castleisland Community College has a long history of creating awareness of the importance of the environment using a cross-curricular approach,” said teacher Doreen Killington.

Theme of Sustainability

“The theme of sustainability is now a core concept in many of the new junior cycle subjects such as: geography, business, CSPE, woodwork and home economics.

“Santa’s Elves have just learnt how to recycle unwanted items whilst spreading some Christmas joy,” said Ms. Killington.
