Castleisland Co-Op Mart organised a calf sale on the afternoon of Monday, March 14th with the support of customers and members.
Now, all of the impressive proceeds of €15,275 have been presented to the Kerry Red Cross for its fundraising efforts in the Ukrainian humanitarian crisis.
People Were Great
“We were more than willing to do something for the Red Cross appeal when we were asked to but we never imagined that we’d raise that amount of money on the day and since,” said mart Chairman Timmy Horan.
“People were great and very generous in donating calves for the auction on the day.
“We got in the region of €10,000 worth of calves for the auction and even farmers whose calves weren’t ready for sale at the time donated the price of the calf to the fund.
Contributions from Dingle
“People who came to the mart on the following days also donated and we managed to build it up that way.
“We put ever bob that came in for the fund into that final total. There were no auctioneer fees or levies of any kind taken off it – every cent went to the Red Cross.
“There was a great response from our colleagues in the Dingle mart where our manager Nelius McAuliffe is highly thought of in his managerial role there also.
Thanks to All Donors
“It was Terry O’Sullivan from Scartaglin who suggested to Nelius that he’d donate a calf and he’d put out the word and see if he could build it up enough to make it worth having an auction.
“Nelius ran with the idea and we wound up with a cheque for over the €15 thousand mark.
“The Red Cross was delighted with the final figure and they asked us to thank all who donated to it along the way,” said Timmy.
