Castleisland Tidy Towns plan for the KWD County Clean Up on the coming Saturday, April 2nd. is to make it a social occasion this year.

“Our meeting point is at Nana Bea’s at 10am for refreshments where we will hand out bags, gloves and litter pickers to the volunteers,” said Tidy Towns Secretary, Mary Walsh.

“While some areas in the town will be covered by Tidy Towns volunteers, there is a number of areas that still need volunteers. These areas include: College Road; Limerick Road up to Clonough Bridge and Tralee Road to the roundabout.

Bring Your Litter Picker
“We would encourage groups of friends and families to participate in this year’s clean up. If you have a litter picker already bring it along as litter pickers are always in short supply.
The weather promises to be good if a little colder than present so please turn out to support Castleisland and, for safety,  wear your hi-vis vest or jacket.

It is a very worthwhile activity and hopefully it will lead to more of the community volunteering to do their bit for the town.

Community College Students Kick-Start Campaign

Meanwhile, Castleisland Community College students have kick-started the County Clean-Up / National Spring Clean campaign.

Second year students at the college got the litter picking duties off to an early start on the school grounds and the AFC Astro Turf Pitch.

Litter From River Walk

They found the worst area was the boundary wall with the river walk where rubbish appears to be thrown into the college grounds over the wall from the river walk side and they found quite an accumulation along by the wall.

“There is great credit due to the students who certainly got stuck in and climbed in and around and under branches of trees to clean the piles up of bottles, cans, plastic and paper.

“A huge thank you to these enthusiastic and obliging students – maith sibh,” said Castleisland Community College Green School Coordinator, Doreen Killington.
