Kerry received an allocation of €284,817 from the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Community Activities Fund and both Cllr. Charlie Farrelly and Cllr. Fionnán Fitzgerald expressed a welcome for the announcement.
The key theme of the fund is to support groups, particularly in disadvantaged areas, with their running costs such as utility or insurance bills, as well as with improvements to their facilities.
“It’s great to see community groups in the Castleisland Corca Dhuibhne area figuring so strongly on the list,” said Cllr. Fitzgerald – the chairman of the Castleisland Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District Council.
Voluntary Work A Constant
“It is a testimony to the voluntary work going on quietly day in and day out in our area and we warmly congratulate all who gave of their time and applied,” he said.
While Cllr. Farrelly said that these funds will be put to great use, he said that they’re very much needed as we move with hope into a post Covid period.
Insurance and Expenses
“A lot of voluntary groups in the area were left completely without sources of income during the worst of Covid era.
“Now they still have to find the money for insurance and all the expenses associated with such groups and these sums will make the difference between going to the wall and survival for them.” said Cllr. Farrelly.
