As the darker evenings set in, the training pitches in Castleisland Desmonds have become much quieter.
Last weekend saw a very busy and successful round up to the football year for many of the teams.
The men’s junior team lined out against John Mitchels in the McElligott Shield final on Friday night last in Ballymac GAA pitch. The Desmonds had a very strong team on the field and led continually throughout the game.
John Mitchels came within three points of the Desmonds when they scored a last-minute penalty just as the final whistle was blown.

The juniors also recently won the North Kerry Junior League Final against St. Senan’s on a scoreline of 2-6 to 1-7.
Congratulations to managers and selectors Kevin Lynch, Pearse Cronin, Charles Nelligan and Finn Lynch for their work involved with the team all year.
U-15 Boys
The U-15 boys played on Sunday last against the local team from Cordal, in the District competition.
The game, which took place in Castleisland, saw the visitors as comprehensive winners on the day. Well done to everyone involved in this team.
U-13 Boys
The U-13 boys took part in the Central Region Division 4 Final last Saturday in Killorglin.
The opposition; Templenoe/Tuosist/Sneem/Derrynane were a strong team to contend with but the Desmonds lads battled hard to the final whistle, only losing out by two points. The final score was Desmonds 2-6 to Templenoe/Tuosist/Sneem/Derrynane 2-8. Castleisland Desmonds team: J.Lordon, C.Quirke, J.Reynolds, L.McCarthy, S.McCarthy (capt), J. Minors Club Championship Winners
The Desmonds minor team won the Minor Football Club ‘C’ Championship by defeating Milltown/Castlemaine in Farranfore on Saturday on a scoreline of 2-9 to 0-13.
Desmonds played very well throughout with Chris Devane opening the scoring with a goal in the first four minutes of the match. Kian Downey racked up a total of six points, with three coming from frees.
Eoghan Shire put the ball in the back of the net in the second half as well as scoring another point before the end of the game.
Ruairi Burke and Finn Nolan scored a point each. The team lined out as follows: L.Nolan, N. Niewiadomski, A.Burke, C. Devane, I.Brosnan, E. Brennan, S.Lawless, R. Bourke, T.Conway, E.Shire, M O COnnor, P. O Shea, captain; K. Downey, B. O Leary, F. Nolan. Substitute was B. O Donoghue. Celebration Social on November 5th
The club members are looking forward to a ‘Celebration Social’ on November 5th in the River Island Hotel.
Tickets will be on sale shortly from all club officials to celebrate the success of the senior men’s team over the past two years. It will be a great night of celebrations and everyone is very welcome.
