Brosna GAA Club and Parish News Round-Up

Brosna GAA Club PRO, Mariéad Moriarty with all the news from the club and parish.

Sing Sing Sing

I am delighted to announce that the small but powerful Brosna Choir will be in action one Saturday evening of each month.

Fr. Spillane and choir leader-extraordinaire, Catherine Nash came up with the proposal and all the eager singers – and a few new bodies – answered the call.

The intention is that all attending at Mass should join in with the singing. The hymns being sung should be well-known to everyone. Please all sing along.

It is the greatest expression of joy of the spirit to sing together as a community.

If anyone is interested in formally joining the choir, call up to the gallery after Mass on Saturday night to find out about practice evenings etc. Everyone is welcome.

GAA News

Mná Na hÉireann

Brosna is going to be at the centre of LGFA action on Saturday afternoon at 2pm when the National League LGFA encounter between Kerry and Meath is hosted in our very own Páirc na Féile.

Get there early to secure standing room. A huge honour for our parish to host a game of such national significance.

I have no qualms in being totally partisan. May the gods smile on you, Kerry Ladies!

Kerry Minors

KnockBrosna got off to an incredible start on Saturday against visitors St Mary’s Renard.

With limited numbers on both sides, it was great to see the match proceed. Special mention to Maurice Lane who continues to impress with some intelligent and classy footwork in his goal. Wishing the squad, trainers and supporters a great year. FT KB 1 20. SMR 1 07.

North Kerry League

Brosna v Beale in Brosna. I cannot help but draw a comparison between our recent game and Kerry’s outing against Mayo from Saturday evening.

Beale arrived in the Mayo colours and from the get go they moved at pace. Brosna struggled to get on the scoreboard with drop shorts and wides. At half time it was Brosna 0-3. Beale 1-7.

In the second half, Brosna improved but still struggled against a Beale side that were kicking great points from distance. But unlike the Kerry game, Brosna performed a magic trick when the game was running on fumes.

A Masterful Free

With 59 minutes on the clock and five points down, two smart points were popped over. The final kick of the game on 62 minutes involved a masterful free in for Brosna. The ball found the mighty fist of Shane Curtin who buried it in the net. Draw.

Great scoring by Conor Lane, Kieran O’Donnell, Paul Walsh and Jack O’Sullivan complemented by monumental defending by Shane Fitzgerald who threw himself onto a Beale goal shot like a man smothering a grenade. Tom Fitzgerald, Flor, Timmy, Darren, Jason all stood up to be reckoned with. Luke, who transferred from Beale, had his first taste of gamekeeper turned poacher.

Some days a draw feels like a win. Full time 1-11 draw. Next game Tarbert /Duagh v Brosna February 26that 2pm. Check out social media or the board at the pitch for venue.
