Students of St Patrick’s Secondary School have returned from their recent jam packed educational trip to France.

Students and teachers touched down in Paris on the second week of Easter holidays to see all of the major cultural sights. After Paris they further broadened their horizons when they went to the Normandy region and took in many historically significant tours.

This gave students the opportunity to see historical sites that they would previously have learned about in their junior cycle transition year history classes.

Students’ Views on Trip

This region was ideal for some coastal trips where they continued their learning from Geography and Science class about coastal erosion.

Since returning students are already reminiscing about their time in Europe. A taste of what Transition Year students have had to say about the trip includes:

“It was great craic, my favourite part was the trip to Sainte-Mère-Église, it was amazing to see the tanks and submarines from World War II,” Jack Walsh.

“The Louvre was my favourite part of the trip to France, we got to see the famous Mona Lisa and so much more famous art there besides, I enjoyed getting the chance to practice the French I have learned in school also,” David Breja.

‘Seeing Paris was Brilliant’

“We got to know one another well and learned how to co-operate with each other a lot better, it was a great trip,” Evan Nash.

“I really enjoyed the trip, staying in a hotel with my friends and seeing Paris was brilliant, we would like to thank Mr. Selmi, Mr. Fitzgerald, Mr. Hurley and Mr. Sheehan who came with us

on the trip, they put a lot of time in beforehand organising everything,” Jack Brosnan.

This Transition Year trip where students enjoyed educational experiences with their own friends and classmates has given them a really positive perspective on their learning in junior cycle and TY.

“It now gives them the ideal catapult into their fifth and sixth year senior cycle and years of memories to look back on,” said St. Pat’s Deputy Principal Tim Long.
