The Late Kathy Scannell

The Late Kathy Scannell, a native of Kilgarvan and resident of Glenflesk passed away on June 23rd 2022 at 98 years of age.

In the course of her long life she had witnessed several family members succumb to cancer.

Her sons, John and Timmy have had long associations with the Ring of Kerry Cycle with a cancer charity as the beneficiary of their efforts.

“Members of Kathy’s family run Clonkeen Forestry Services and we at the Maine Valley Golf Club have close ties with them and they have always been very good to us over the years,” said event organising committee member, Brendan Quirke.

“We’re very happy to have Kathy Scannell’s name associated with a charity fundraising classic here at the club and we’re delighted at the outcome and to be able to present a cheque for €13,050 makes it all worthwhile,” said Brendan.

With Thanks to…..

Brendan wished to add sincere thanks to the following: Matt Keane, Castleisland Rugby Club for the signed rugby ball; Tom Barry, Killarney Printing Works; David and Paudie Clifford for the Kerry jersey; and the Harbour Restaurant for the Kerry ladies team jersey.

About The Club

The Maine Valley Members Golf Club is situated just outside Killorglin and is among the most scenic anywhere in the world.

It was facing tough times in the early days of 2020 while its counterpart in Castleisland was being wound up just weeks before Covid-19 struck an unsuspecting world.

Castleisland’s demise, however, proved Killorglin’s saving grace. Behind the scenes negotiations secured a place for the refugees from The Island and the future of what was soon to become The Maine Valley Members Golf Club.

Closest to Kerry Airport

The club overlooks the River Laune as it enters Dingle Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.  Centrally located on the Ring of Kerry, Maine Valley Members Golf course benefits by being one of the closest to Kerry Airport which is only 20 minutes away.

The golf club has been rejuvenated since the amalgamation of the Killorglin and Castleisland clubs and is open to new members.

Intending members are asked to call in to speak with one of the committee or contact the pro shop directly on 066 97 61979.
