The Team Hope Shoe Box Appeal took place this autumn in Castleisland Community College.

The shoe box appeal is an annual campaign that delivers gifts straight into the hands of children affected by poverty.

“These gifts are often the only present that a child will receive at Christmas and the joy that they bring is incredible,” said the school’s Irish and Geography teacher, Doreen Killington who organises the appeal there every year.

Gifts Delivered to Vulnerable Children

Since 2010, over 2.5 million shoe box gifts have been delivered to vulnerable children across the word. The most valued items in the shoe boxes are items for school-copybooks, pens and pencils. These offer hope to children to receive an education and break the cycle of poverty.

“A huge thank you to the students, parents and school community who donated shoe boxes and cash donations to this very worthy cause.

“There were 145 boxes received with cash donations as well. The Team Hope Shoe Box Appeal is now part of our Christmas tradition here at the college,” said Ms. Killington.
