Community College Student Alex Ahern is 2023 Munster Schools Swimming Champion

Castleisland Community College student, Alex Ahern with Principal Teresa Lonergan who passed on the congratulations and best wishes of all at the college on his recent Munster swimming gold and silver medal success.

Castleisland Community College is, this week, congratulating its student Alex Ahern on winning gold and silver at the Munster Schools’ Swimming Championship in UL.

Alex represented his school where he is presently in second year.

He won in the Individual Medley at U-14. The medley included swimming the breaststroke, back crawl, butterfly and front crawl. Alex also came second in the butterfly U-14. He now goes forward representing Munster in the All-Ireland Schools’ Swimming Championship next March in the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.

Swimming at Six

He began swimming at the age of six and he is certainly committed to the sport. He trains with the Kingdom Swimming Club in Tralee. This involves a commitment of training seven days a week and three of these trainings take place at 6am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Principal Teresa Lonergan said that both students and teachers at the college are immensely proud of Alex for becoming a Munster schools champion.

“We all wish him every success in the All-Ireland finals,” said Ms. Lonergan.
