On the first Friday night after the very first full moon of 2024, the Island Players will return to the Ivy Leaf stage to complete their planned four night run and add one to make it five.

The harsh weather of this time last week wreaked havoc with the Thursday to Sunday night performance plans of the players.

The frost and snow hit audience of the Thursday night show was followed by two solid booking nights until it came to the Sunday night finale and eventual cancellation due to Storm Isha.

The play Turf authors. Kevin McGaley and Redmond Roche with director Jerome Stack and lighting technician, Aidan Reidy and the cast vowed that they would get back up them steps to the stage again as soon as the first opportunity presented itself.

Friday and Sunday Night Shows

They’re back on stage on this Friday and Sunday nights, January 26th and 28th at 8pm nightly.

“The play was originally written as a radio drama in 2018, inspired by the pub culture in rural Ireland – a culture that in many places is in the past,” Kevin and Redmond explained.

“It was then developed as a stage play during 2019. Casting had begun and the play was in the early stages of rehearsal, when the Covid pandemic put it, like so many other things, on hold.

“We are extremely grateful to the large cast of actors and to our director Jerome Stack and Aidan Reidy on lights and sound and the stage design team – they are all so vital in bringing a production like this to the stage,’’said the authors.
