St. Mary’s Basketball Club is sending two teams of boys, U-14 and U-16 to the Euro Youth Basketball Cup games in Barcelona in June.

To help fund the trip, club members are organising a clothes collection day at Castleisland Community Centre car-park during school mid-term on Thursday, February 15th from 10am to 12pm.

The organisers are appealing for support for the fundraising venture and they have a list of ‘collectables’ that they’d most like to get from members of the public on the day.

Teams from All Over the World

“The Euro Youth Basketball Cup brings teams of boys and girls together from all over the world and it’s being organised by European Sports Events,” said fundraising group spokesperson Owen Nolan.

It is being held from June 14th to 16th with boys and girls categories at U-12, U-14, U-16 and U-18.

“It is considered one of the most prestigious international basketball tournaments in Europe and it will be a great experience for the players and their families.

List of ‘Collectables’

“There is a list of items that we are hoping to get during the clothes collection: Paired shoes, hats, scarves, bed linen, curtains, towels and belts,” said Owen.
