Brosna senior football team put on a spirited display against a lively Waterville at home on Sunday.

The weather was cool and gloomy, but the pitch was red hot. Fast paced play, terrific scores, and impressive defending created a most enjoyable game for spectators. A number of missed goal opportunities brought audible gasps from the home support.

Notable performances on the day were Shane O’Sullivan in defense. Brilliant scores by Darren Horan and his brother David, Jamie O’Sullivan, Tom Fitzgerald and Timmy Finnegan too.

The final score of Brosna 0-15 to Waterville 0-9 ensured that we progress out of division four back to our natural setting at Division 3. Well done to all involved for the focus, effort and dedication. It’s been a wonderful year so far for our boys.

On a Separate Note

On a separate note, the amazing U-13 Brosna / Knocknagoshel team headed to Connolly Park in Tralee for their County Final clash against Ardfert.

The game was a full throttle spectacle with both sides bringing great energy to the encounter. Ardfert proved to be the stronger team on the day. A disappointment for our local crew who gave everything they had on the evening. Dear Players, be proud of what you’ve achieved to get to a County Final. Take comfort from the knowledge that you, as individuals, have the capacity to form meaningful bonds with your fellow players, take to pitches to showcase your skills developed in training sessions and can look to the future as promising ambassadors of the game. We are so proud of each and every one of you Team Brosna / Knock.

Long Day for Election Officials

A big thank you to the wonderful women who officiated at the school on the day of the election.

Starting at 6.30am, this amazing group didn’t get to close up until 11pm. I cast my votes in Room 2 and found our own Mary Galvin and an old school mate of mine from Abbeyfeale Siobhan O’Connor manning the ballot.

How blessed we are to live in a country where democracy is each person’s right. The freedom to vote, to have a say in how our communities and country is supported by elected candidates.

Our priest, Fr. Spillane, prayed at Mass on Saturday night for the elected councillors and MEPs that they would be guided in the work they do. A fitting remark. We wish all the elected individuals well as they apply their best efforts to continue to support our inclusive society.

Thought for the Week

A big thank you to all those involved locally in maintaining our wonderful parish.

Our picturesque village and the surrounding countryside is a joy to behold. How lucky are we to wake up each day in a corner of the planet where we can live in harmony with our neighbours, walk quiet roadways, let children run free and join together for important community occasions. From Community Games to GAA matches, from funerals to birthday celebrations, we get to walk side by side and support one another. I’m always proud and grateful to be in Brosna. I thank each and everyone of you for contributing to the overall greatness of this fair parish.
