Surrounded by family and friends of all ages at the River Island Hotel on Saturday afternoon, Fr. Seán Horgan celebrated his 80th birthday.

He has been an active member of the clergy in the Castleisland parish for the past decade and a half and he takes great pleasure and joy in this role.

“What a pleasure it was to celebrate this great man’s 80th Birthday,” said a family member and birthday reception organiser on Saturday.

“Fr. Sean is a wonderful family man, as well as a highly respected member of the clergy and community.

“He has devoted his life to helping others. He moved and served in Blackburn in the UK from the 1960s right up to his retirement in 2010.

“Various stories and visits from parishioners to Ireland from friends from the UK show how well respected and thought of he was there.

“He moved back to Farranfore, and it didn’t take him long to establish himself in this community due to his great sense of humour and devotion to God.

“All in all, Sean is a great character, well respected by all and his greatest achievements in life has been serving God and helping many people along the way,” said the family member.
