The annual Castleisland Tidy Towns Church Gate Collection will be held outside the 6.15pm Saturday evening Mass and the 11.30 am Sunday morning Mass over this coming weekend.

“Your generosity helps to support the work of planting, painting, cleaning, litter picking, grass cutting, managing bio diversity and generally working to keep your town, Castleisland looking well and your support is greatly appreciated,” according to a reminder from group chairman John Breen.

Added to the reminder, John has included an update on the work of Tidy Towns this year and particularly the welcome link formed with Lillian Cronin’s international students .

The students recently did a great job painting the fence between the Desmonds GAA Club grounds and town on the Limerick Road.

One Hour for Your Town

They were assisted in this by Pa Burke, manager of the Credit Union and his staff.

“We are also continuing to get great support from volunteers for our weekly Tidy Towns Tuesdays from 7pm to 8pm with the rallying call: One Hour for Your Town,” said Mr. Breen with more than a hint of inspiration and an emphasis on job satisfaction.

Projects Tackles to Date

Recent projects tackled on these Tuesday evenings have included: weeding of Killarney Road Roundabout; Dead heading and maintenance of planters; Cleaning of Information signs on Main Street and painting of the traffic island at Limerick Road.

“If anyone is interested in becoming involved and has an hour to spare any Tuesday evening, we meet outside the AIB at 7pm and an hour later you will have contributed greatly to how your town looks,”
