Congrats to Kerry Ladies and Olympians Doing Us Proud Per Capita

The bus carrying the All-Ireland Senior Ladies Football Champions, Kerry comes to a halt outside the Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club Grounds on Monday evening just after 6:30pm and was met in victory as it was in defeat by admiration, love and pride in what the county’s heroines and their managers have achieved this year. ©Photograph: John Reidy 5-8-2024

Football is Coming Home

Congratulations to the impressive and victorious Kerry Ladies. What a triumph. It’s wonderful to see the mighty force of Kerry women take the top prize in the All Ireland Final.

Their performance against Galway was flawless. Such energy and precision. This wonderful squad has waited a long time to get their just rewards. A proud day to be from Kerry and a proud day for women everywhere. Special mention to Lorraine who was heroic when she took to the field. A joy to watch, one and all.

Olympians – Take A Bow

I heard a wonderful statistic today. Apparently per capita Ireland is top of the table for medals.

We are averaging one Olympic medal per million citizens. That puts us way ahead of the big guns like USA and China. Take a bow all of you wonderful Olympians regardless of the medal outcome. To see you taking Ireland into the international arena, and participating on the global stage with such poise, makes you a champion in our eyes.

Thought for The Week

In keeping with the theme of the Olympics, I’d like to use the games as a metaphor for life. All of your days leading up to the present moment are the practice and preparation that creates the main event aka your life.

When you bring discipline, focus and faith to your daily life, the result is a top class performance. But being human sometimes your focus may slip, you might get hurt and shy away from full participation in life.

You might lose confidence in what you can do perhaps distracted and disheartened as someone around you appears to outrank your skills.

Remember all that is required of you is to simply do your best in all things great or small. To not allow a fall, setback, or comparison to define your life’s game.

Your mantra should be that small positive daily actions lead to personal bests. You are all gold medalists once you allow your greatest talents to be used and seen.
