The secretary of the Knocknagosnel History Association, and editor of Knocknagosnel Past and Present, Donal Murphy has announced that the final touches have been put to the proposed ‘Daonscoil’ for the village in the spring of 2025.
The daonscoil or folk-school will be held in the local community centre in Knocknagosnel on the last Saturday of February (22nd) 2025 and commencing at 10am.
The MCs for the occasion are Jimmy Deenihan and Pat McCarthy.
Nominated Speakers
The following speakers were nominated and all have agreed to take part: Senator Ned O’Sullivan, Billy Keane, Pat Butler, Tom Roche, Jimmy Kirby, Owen O’Shea, Aidan Murphy, Deirdre Walsh, Mairead Brosnan, Michelle Hickey, Michelle Keane and Catherine Lenihan.
Minister for Education Norma Foley is the honorary president of the eventl and Dick Spring is vice-president.
The extensive programme will deal with the present problems facing Knocknagoshel, like the lack of a convenience shop and the provision of a sewage and waste water system fit for purpose.
Aidan Murphy will speak on tourism and the hotel and airbnb industry. He is editor of the annual survey on Irish hotels and will present the views of the owners and proprietors in the tourist industry.
Meal and Refreshments
The community centre will provide a three-course meal and refreshments.
Abbeyfeale based musicians, Four Men and a Dog and Sliabh Notes and Celtic Steps will provide traditional music and entertainment in the afternoon.
A raffle will take place with proceeds going to the Kerry/Cork/Limerick Cancer Bus fund to enhance the €4,500 already presented from the proceeds of the sales of the book.
“The late Tralee journalist, Michael O’Regan together with five other people associated with the book, namely: Larry Keane, N.T; , Sean Joy; Jim ‘The Pecker’ O’Sullivan; Ann Hartnett and Helen Mackessy have all passed on to their eternal rewards.
“They will all be remembered with pride in Knocknagosnel on that Saturday, February 22nd.
