A statement issued by Chairperson Patrick O’Sullivan of Kerry GAA said that St Kieran’s had requested their recent county senior championship game against East Kerry to be played in Austin Stack Park Tralee.
This has been publicly denied by the Castleisland district side’s secretary, Cllr. Fionnán Fitzgerald.
This request, had it been made, would have had the knock-on effect of causing changes to the ladies senior and intermediate fixtures at that time.
“This was never the case. St Kieran’s challenged that statement recently and is glad to have received a reply from the County Board that the record will be corrected in the near future,” according to Cllr. Fitzgerald.
Cllr. Farrelly’s Summing Up
On his own social media site Cllr. Fitzgerald’s colleague, Cllr. Charlie Farrelly said: “If this is allowed to happen, I really think the Kerry County Board and its officers should bow their heads in shame for the total disregard of Kerry LGFA that they have shown on this occasion, and on other occasions in the past.”
Cllr. Fitzgerald’s Letter
The following is the content of a letter sent to the county board by Cllr. Fitzgerald in his capacity as runaí / secretary of St. Kieran’s. This is followed by the reply he received from the county board.
A Runaí a Chara,
At the recent Kerry County Board meeting it was stated by The Chairperson Patrick O’Sullivan that “St Kieran’s requested a Sunday game in Austin Stack Park and the CCC had little option but to fix this game for Austin Stack Park for Sunday 6th at 2pm”.
St Kieran’s Executive are shocked at this statement. No contact was made with our opponents in relation to the venue, date or time of this fixture nor was contact made with The County Board in relation to same. We are extremely disappointed to see the opposite being stated at the recent County Board Meeting and to read the same in print in national media outlets.
We request that the correct version of events be read into the minutes of the next County Board Meeting and that the account as outlined above and in print in national media outlets be removed.
Le meas, Fionnán Fitzgerald, Runaí St Kieran’s.
The reply from Kerry County Board:
Fionnán a chara,
We’ll correct this at next Co. Board Meeting,
Le Meas,
Peter, Coiste Chontae Chiarraí, Páirc Aibhistin de Staic, Bosca 125, Trá Lí, Co. Chiarraí.
