The second day of efforts to lift the stricken truck, which left the N21 outside

Castleisland at the Knocknagoshel side of the Meinleitrim turn-off on Wednesday night, got underway this morning at 10am

Road closures and diversions are in place there again this morning and motorists using the busy route can expect delays up to and possibly beyond mid-day today.

The magnitude of the operation is underlined by the presence of heavy machinery with lifting gear on site there this morning.

On its way over the side of the road and through the grass margin the truck demolished all before it including the parked car and up to a dozen of the recently installed anchors and the attached steel safety barriers.

“Thanks be to God but it is close to a miracle that nobody was seriously injured or worse,” said Cllr. Charlie Farrelly on surveying the scene of the accident on Thursday.

Detours in Place

Detours are in place and the area will be manned by staff members of Kerry County Council.

Motorists are again being advised to take care on approaching the detour points and particularly on the re-routed roads.
