Brosna Christmas Market on November 29th

It may seem a little ahead of schedule to mention Christmas, but, put a date in your diary for the annual Brosna Christmas Market on Friday, November 29th starting at 5pm.

A golden opportunity to support local crafters and kick off the season of giving.

Mass for the Dead

The annual Mass for the Dead will take place in Brosna at 7pm on Friday, November 22nd.

Anyone who has lost a loved one in the past 12 months should attend to receive a memorial candle and remember their loved ones.

Thought For The Week – Elections at Home and Abroad

The red hot nature of the US election campaign has cooled rapidly and now we’ll be having a general election later this month.

In the heat of campaigning we have seen and heard untruths, inciteful statements and discriminatory propaganda not just in the US but here at home.

Is this the face of modern politics? I’m unimpressed by candidates harnessing social media to spread misinformation and target groups in society.

These falsehoods, once circulated in the world, become what are known as truisms.

That is a statement that gains credibility by virtue of the fact it’s repeated again and again. Instead of sketchy, headline grabbing commentary from candidates, I want to hear about their policies, based on rational facts.

What are You Doing for Communities ?

I want to know about what they plan to do for communities, specifically healthcare, education and housing etc. I’m looking for the opinions of candidates who are qualified on topics of great importance to me firstly as a woman and secondly as a citizen.

I will then vote and let my voice count. Regardless of the elections outcome, I will uphold, respect and support the democratic process.

It’s our first bastion against chaos and insurgency. And let’s not forget how lucky we are to be able to vote and choose who works for us in government. It’s a privilege denied so many across the globe.
