The late Margaret Reidy, nee Sullivan, Gurteen, Castleisland and late of, Ardee, Co. Louth. Her family lovingly marked her 80th birthday with a big thank you to the Kerry Hospice Foundation.

The Main Street, Castleisland based Tom McCarthy’s Central Bar hosted a special memorial, birthday, coffee morning last Sunday, November 10th from 12noon to 2pm.

The event was organised by the family of the late Margaret Reidy of Gurteen to mark what would have been her 80th birthday.

Margaret, a native of Ardee, Co. Louth, died on February 4th 2019 and her family got together to repeat a collective Thank You to all on the Palliative Care team at the Kerry Hospice Foundation at University Hospital Kerry for the care and attention she received from them when she needed it most.

Culinary Creativity

The family put all of its culinary creativity on display for Margaret’s birthday at Tom’s on Sunday and, straight from the vault of the vernacular, one man commented: “there was grub there to beat the band,” – in translation: beating the band is good – very good.

The contents of the donations bucket will be revealed over the coming weekend but the amount had gone past the €3,000 mark by mid-week.

Blueprint for Coffee Mornings

With the Kerry Hospice Foundation in full fundraising mode at present and planning its extension of services at University Hospital Kerry, I asked fundraising chairman, Jack Shanahan if there’s a blue-print for coffee mornings and other such beneficial events.

“We would, of course, be delighted to hear from clubs or families and from anyone thinking of organising a fundraising event. We’re very grateful to families and people who help us fund our services in any way they feel they can.

Planning a Fundraiser

“If you’re planning an event like a coffee morning, first of all, please let us know so that we can get behind it and flag it on our social media platforms.

“It’s important to find a place that suits everybody and inform the hosts of an estimate of the numbers you expect to attend your event,” said Jack.
