Wedded Bliss Wishes – Better Late..

A little late in wishing Shauna Lane and her husband, Bruce Cameron, many congratulations on their recent wedding.

I saw that there was a wonderful write up and gorgeous photos in the Examiner, celebrating the fabulous occasion.

Shauna is a wonderful individual who brings a lovely calm quality to all she does – be it music or work. It’s great to see that Shauna and her prince charming Bruce – who hails from Scotland – have found one another and will enjoy creating a life together here in our parish. I hope his tradition of kilt wearing becomes a feature of life here. Nothing like amping up the celtic vibe.

We wish you both well.

Christmas Market on Friday 29th

Looking forward to Friday 29 November when the Brosna Christmas festivities officially start in the hall.

Starting at 5pm. Come along for the shopping, snacking, chatting and general great fun.

Thought For The Week: Putting Down Your Burden

We are all carrying burdens both big and small.  Some we carry for a short time, others are the work of a lifetime.

As Christmas is a time that’s focused on joy, celebration, and new birth, it might be worthwhile doing a little bit of emotional decluttering to make room for the joy.

Start by releasing the small burdens that you might have accumulated lately. Let those daily niggles and annoyances begone. Just let them go.

A Rational Look

Then have a rational look at the burdens you’ve been carrying for a long long time. It isn’t as simple as just saying Bye Bye to these weights we carry, they can be grief, loss, bitterness, anger, regret. But we can do a short exercise that will give us a momentary break from the burden.

A little like resting a heavy shopping bag on the ground for a moment, so you can regroup for the next stage of the journey. So, let’s get comfortable. Find somewhere warm and quiet to sit.

Gently close your eyes. Allow your breath to calmly flow in and out.

As each breath goes in and out feel a lovely sense of heaviness descend on your body. You will feel all tension just melt downwards from the crown of your head into the floor.

Your Bright Inner Self

Like a dark layer of lead has just dissolved and melted away, revealing your bright, inner self. Your body should now feel lighter. Your head should feel like it’s floating above your neck, like a balloon on a golden thread.

There is a softness to your mind as all the thoughts that were packed in there have just melted away for the moment. Continue to sit and just let your breath flow in and out. Relish that light, weightless sensation.

Heavy Thoughts – Let Them Go

If any heavy thoughts try to push into your calm space, simply acknowledge them and let them blow away like a cloud across a sky. Return to your breathing it is the anchor that keep you safely in this moment.

When you feel you are ready to reemerge into daily life, gently come out of your meditation. Taking even five minutes a day, has untold health benefits around lowering blood pressure. The more we practice putting our heaviest of burdens down for a moment or two, the easier our day to day living becomes.

The Power of Meditation

The burdens do return but somehow they are less weighty as we know we have the mental power through meditation to put them down for a short time each day. In our meditative states we create a life where we feel our existence is something more profound and deeper than our earthly thoughts.  Wishing you some blissful moments of respite from all that burdens you.
