Great News: A Playground for Brosna

Wonderful news. Planning permission has been granted for a playground in the village.

A wonderful amenity that will give a safe and focused place for our young citizens to learn important skills like communication, cooperation, balance, curiosity, bravery, self-confidence and achievement while all the time moving their bodies in a healthy way.

Let’s face it, anything that gets children away from screens and into the outdoors is valuable. Never underestimate the benefits of these urban amenities in building healthy, well adjusted children.

Well done to all involved. I know there are a number of fund raising activities to support this project and whatever you can do to contribute will be gratefully received.

We are very lucky there are a lot of grants out there that we qualify for once we put our own parish funding in place. Go Brosna.

The Stork Has Landed

Congratulations to Daniel Fitzgerald and Sarah O’Reilly who welcomed beautiful baby, Esme, recently.

With parents like that, young Esme is bound to be blessed with beauty and musical talent. Richard and Eileen are kept busy with their growing brood of grandkids but have plenty of vim and vigour for it. Congratulations all round again. Looking forward to seeing the little tot soon.

Thought For The Week: Good Smaritans

We certainly had a blast of weather last week. I went from being snowed in with no electricity, to snowed in with no water.

Then throw a storm in on top of the equation and it was an interesting time.  I want to say a big thanks to everyone across the parish and county who went above and beyond to help out. Neighbours and family who gave food, water and company.

Farmers who cleared roads, pulled cars out of ditches, helped with flooding issues. Council workers who got out in tough conditions to salt and grit roads.

The electricians who got the power back on so quickly. The water scheme workers who did their best to keep the supply flowing. Food delivery drivers who got to our shops and co ops to keep the show on the road.

Nurses and doctors who got to hospitals and clinics on brutal roads to care for patients. Isn’t it a timely reminder for us to value all those who turn up for us both visibly and invisibly every day.

In times of duress, we don’t ask our good Samaritans if they are the same ethnic background as us, we don’t check their religious views, we aren’t focused on the colour of skin.

All we see are good people getting out in tough weather to do their best to make our lives easier. Thank you one and all. You are valued, you matter. We are all in this together.
