Special Gathering for Éamonn

On Tuesday November 26th at the Carnagie Library in Castleisland, the group Cúpla Focal ‘s Cupán Tae gathered to make a presentation to Éamonn Ó Braoin on his semi- retirement as ‘ceannaire’ of the group.

Éamonn has been teaching Gaeilge and promoting the language for more than twenty years since he founded the group in 2003.

The aim was to encourage Irish speakers of all levels to use our native language in the community. The group has gone from strength to strength, Éamonn, with support from Pádraig Rua Ó’Suilleabháin and Brendan Ó’Duinneacha launched Dánscoil Sliabh Luachra in 2021.

The purpose of this initiative was to research and educate the participants on the local poets of the area e.g Éoghan Rua Ó’Suilleabháin Uileog Ó’Ceirín.

Participants were encouraged to compare their own verses, in the various styles. The result was the publication, in 2023 of Filíocht na nDaoine, a triumph for all concerned.

Éamonn’s dedication and years of fostering the use of and his love of Irish was recognised and celebrated at the regular Tuesday night gathering. Bail ó Dhia ar.
