Sliabh Luachra Active Retired Network held its Christmas Party in the River Island Hotel recently and over 155 people attended.
The attendance was drawn from the greater Castleisland area and they enjoyed a three course meal followed by an afternoon of music by the Singing Jarvey.
The Network, established in 2006, is committed to providing a wide range of social programmes for older people to help relieve social isolation and loneliness through friendship and companionship.
Local Groups Engaged
Groups engaged in the network includes: Lyreacrompane Community Care; Scartaglin Social Action; Knocknagoshel Over 55s Club; Currow Active Retired; Castleisland Active Retired; Ballymacelligott Active Retired.
All the groups are supported by the HSE Community Work Department which organises a series of events throughout the year including tea dances and various positive aging events.
Big Welcome for Santa and the Missus
“Those who attended were delighted to welcome Santa and Mrs. Claus who had a surprise gift for all those and the best news of the day was when Santa and Mrs Claus announced that all present were on the Good List,” said Dolores McElligott, team leader Older Persons, Kerry Community Work Department.
