National Concert Hall Billing for Scart’s Seán Butler and his Music

Séan Butler, a 17-year-old accordion player, from Scartaglin will be taking part in the Siansa Gael Linn music competition finals on Sunday, March 23 rd in the National Concert Hall, Dublin.

Siansa provides a platform for talented teenage groups in the area of traditional Irish music and singing.

The event is run entirely through the medium of Irish. Seán is part of the traditional Irish group Teorainn, made up of eight musicians from Cork and Kerry, that meet and practice with renowned musician Conor Moriarty.

A True Exponent of the Sliabh Luachra Style

“Seán is a true exponent of the Sliabh Luachra style of music, showing a musical maturity well beyond his years.

“He has rooted his style of playing, in that of the renowned Sliabh Luachra masters such as Johnny O’Leary, Paddy Cronin and Patrick O’Keeffe.

“This is evident in his vast repertoire of slides and polkas and also in the rhythmical swing of his music,” according to acting principal Máiread Corridan, who herself is well known as a concertina player in traditional music circles.

A Role Model for Fellow Students

“He has been a role model for other students with regard to developing their own musical styles and is generous with his time and musical knowledge to others. He is a true advocate for the traditional arts and has an amenable personality, which coupled with his musical talent will take him far in life!” she concluded.
