Local Students Honoured in Kerry ETB Annual Awards

Kerry Education and Training Board (ETB) held its annual awards which acknowledges students from all eight Kerry ETB schools for their academic excellence, outstanding character, participation in school life and sporting achievements.

These awards reflect the hard work, commitment and perseverance that each recipient has demonstrated.

There were eight students who received the prestigious gold medal award for Academic Excellence. Students who received over 600 points in the 2024 Leaving Certificate received this award. Three of the students were from Castleisland Community College, Daniel Daly, Eilís Enright and David Peskett. Shauna O’Keeffe received a silver medal in the overall Best Science and Maths category from all eight Kerry ETB schools.

Individual Awards

Each school has individual awards also and Norma Murphy received a silver medal for achieving the best Junior Cycle Exam results in the school. Mollie Mahony received the School Ethos Award due to her outstanding contribution to the school community. Laura O Donoghue received the Transition Year award for the school due to her unwavering commitment to supporting peers and the wider school community.

The sports award was won by Alex Aherne due to his outstanding achievements in swimming where he represented the school at both provincial and national level.

Aisling’s Inspiring Words

The Student Council Award was won by Hannah Sheehan due to her leadership, commitment and contribution in the School Student Council.

Guest of Honour was Aisling O’Connell whose inspiring words reminded all of the power of perseverance, purpose and and passion.

“The awards highlight not only academic achievement but also the values of the school and Kerry ETB: respect, inclusion, equality and personal excellence,” said Mairéad Corridan, Castleisland Community College acting principal.
