I told my loyal band of readers last evening that Castleisland was to be represented by two women from, or with strong business links to the town in the finals of the Connect Kerry Women in Business Awards 2016. I was wrong as Moll Bell and I wasn’t long finding out my mistake either.
There are four Castleisland business representatives in various categories who have been chosen as finalists in the Connect Kerry Women in Business Awards 2016.
I mentioned Kate Shanahan and Sarah Blake last evening and I plead ignorance for ignoring the fact that Antionette Butler of Irish Host Family.ie and Diet and nutrition expert, Dr. Ailis Brosnan have also been nominated and selected as finalists for the June 10th gala event at Ballyroe Heights Hotel.
Antoinette Butler is a native of Waterford and she’s the founder and director of Irish Host Family.ie.
This is a fast-growing Castleisland-based business which provides English language learning experiences to hundreds of European students each year.
The business started officially in May 2012 with summer camp. It has been grown from an understanding of the needs of visiting students and the attraction and availability of facilities within easy reach of the Castleisland base.
“Students are accommodated with personally selected host families and attend English language classes as well as a wide range of sport and leisure activities during their stay,” Ms. Butler explained.
“The programmes offered by Irishhostfamily.ie range from two week intensive stays during the year and summer months, to full academic year stays where students attend a local secondary school and fully experience Irish life from September to June.
Earlier this year, Irishhostfamily.ie welcomed its first group of third level Agricultural students and they were accommodated and worked on local farms as well as improving their English proficiency. Click on the link here for more information: www.Irishhostfamily.ie
Dr Ailis Brosnan is a diet and nutrition expert and a Castleisland native who has provided fascinating insights into what really helps people to lose weight.
Recently, Dr. Ailís has been in huge demand from radio, tv stations and newspapers in a bid to provide their listeners, viewers and readers with a more powerful insight into how the battle of the bulge can be tackled from the mind outwards.
With a Doctorate in Health Sciences (psychology) and over 20 years experience in the field, she believes the secret to losing weight is to understand the psychology behind healthy behaviour and what does, or doesn’t, motivate people into making healthy choices and lifestyle changes.
Dr. Ailís has been presenting healthy cooking demonstrations at An Riocht AC Clubhouse, Castleisland and more are being planned for the near future. These demonstrations are described as ‘workshops to get inspired in the kitchen.’
She provides tips and techniques for great smoothies, juices, salad dressings, energy balls, dips and more in a fun, relaxed atmosphere with the opportunity to ask questions and sample delicious food.
All the recipes are based on using healthy, plant-based, whole-foods and will be gluten and dairy free.
During her extensive travels in India, Africa, the Middle East, South America and Europe, as well as her work in the UK and the USA, Dr Ailis has explored a myriad of different approaches to health and well being.
