There was a busy and highly visible Garda presence on the roads in and around Castleisland over the weekend.

On Holy Thursday and Good Friday nights a marked Garda car was positioned in various parts of the town and surrounds on breath sampling and vehicle checking duties.

However, for the second weekend in only a couple of weeks, a local fashion shop has been targeted by night-time raiders.

Sizable Sum of Money

In the first break-in and theft a couple of weekends ago, the intruders got away with a sizable sum of money which was left on the premises due to an unavoidable set of circumstances on the proprietor’s behalf.

In last night’s raid, in the early hours of this morning,  the circumstances were different in that no such haul awaited the raiders. And, their luck was out in earnest as they were caught on a newly installed security camera system.

Gardaí Studying Footage

Gardaí in Castleisland are now studying the footage and are expected to follow up on whatever leads the filmed raid throws up.

The proprietor is one and the same person in both businesses and finds the situation upsetting and distressing.

Considerable damage and downright acts of vandalism were perpetrated on both premises during the raids.

Gardaí in Castleisland would like to hear from anyone with any information they may have or anything they may have seen in the course of the night or early morning.
