It’s going to be lights, camera and action for the hit drama ‘Patrick’ when it returns for one night only in the INEC in Killarney on Thursday, May 11th.
The powerful show had a hugely-successful run last year in Rathmore and the INEC when over 7,000 people witnessed the story of Rathmore native, Captain Patrick O’Connor who was one of the four Kerry men to die in the 1916 Rising.
Filmed Live at the INEC
The show is going to be filmed live this time round and another sell-out performance is expected.
Written and directed by journalist and writer Aidan O’Connor, a total cast of crew of 90 people bring the story to life through moving scenes and powerful renditions of some of classic songs like ‘My Little Grey Home in the West’ and Mise Éire.
Despite several requests to take ‘Patrick’ to other venues around Kerry, Dublin, and London, the cast have decided to stay local and the May 11th performance will be the final showing of the amateur production.
Reception for Cast and Crew
A civic reception was awarded by Kerry County Council to the cast and crew last year and a special monument to Captain Patrick O’Connor was unveiled in his native townland on April 23rd.
“The script, the story and the remarkable talent of the actors and performers has moved people beyond all expectations. It’s powerful to see history come so alive,” said its writer, Aidan O’Connor.
“We’re back at rehearsals again and we’re all excited it’s going to be recorded live at the INEC this time round. I think it’s something people will cherish even more in years to come,” he added.
Managing Director of the Gleneagle Group and the INEC, Patrick O’Donoghue, said that this is a fantastic production and a brilliant musical drama.
“We are thrilled Aidan and crew have decided to return to the INEC after an extremely successful run last year,” said Mr. O’Donoghue.
A matinee performance will be held for students on May 11th at 11am.
