Keen photographers in the area might like to know about a collection of cameras which has just been donated to the Sue Ryder Charity Shop at Lower Main Street.
It’s quite an eclectic collection as all the well known makers are represented. Most of the cameras are of the film variety and they look like they’ve had a good life to date.
Cache of a Collector
At a glance they appear to have been the cache of a collector. Anyone looking to step back into the wonderful world of film photography should take a look at the collection.
No instant playback here. You need to know your f.stops from your elbow in this world of winding on and resetting and photography that makes you think about what you’re doing.
There’s a box full of such delights on display in the shop and soem of the flashes and lenses are matched or can be matched to the available cameras. There are also some lenses there that would suit up to the minute digital cameras.
Film to Digital Photography
“We get many donations of all kinds of stuff in to the shop here. This is a bit different and the donor has gone from film cameras to digital completely – that was the explanation we got,” said shop manager Derry Curtin.
The Sue Ryder Foundation Charity Shop in Castleisland has been operating for four years.
The foundation supports the care of the elderly by providing care homes in many locations around the country.
Monday to Saturday
These are funded through the operation of Sue Ryder charity shops in towns throughout Ireland.
The Castleisland shop is based at Lower Main Street – next door to the River Island Hotel and is open six days a week, Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5.30pm.
