Sliabh Luachra Boxing Club has just had a fantastic weekend of activity with a strong squad of eight boxers.
The travelling group included: Paddy Walsh, Barry O’Connor, Paul Browne, Ava Fitzmaurice, Katelyn Horan, Jordan Coffey, Liam Walsh, Sean O’Brien and Bridget O’Brien. Team Manager Jennifer O’Sullivan-Coffey, Coaches: John O’Connell, Barry Walsh and John Coffey.
A Brilliant Display
“All our boxers put on a brilliant display in the ring and they followed the instructions of their coaches so we couldn’t have ask for more,” said a delighted manager, Jennifer O’Sullivan-Coffey. “They have gained great experience and are learning all of the time.
Some of the decisions we didn’t agree with but that’s boxing.
“We are very happy with our result of two gold and one silver and all boxers doing us proud over the weekend.
A Well Run Tournament
“We would also like to thank the Wexford Box Cup Committee and all the officials for a very well run tournament and we’re looking forward to next year.
“In the finals, Barry O’Connor fought his way through to a smashing decider and earned his gold medal against a tough opponent winning him the Boy4 57kg category. Jordan Coffey had a straight final and boxed an English Champion gaining him a silver medal in a split decision,” said Jennifer.
Boxing Club on the Move
In other club news: The Sliabh Luachra Boxing Club is leaving its present headquarters before the end of December and moving to the former O’Donoghue’s Garage at Rice’s Height.
Their co-dwellers in the building, which is owned by Castleisland Co-Op Mart, at The Crageens, North, East and West Kerry Development are also expected to move to new offices.
Revamp Moving to J.K’s
Kingdom Furniture Revamp is also moving to J.K O’Connor’s landmark building in the Latin Quarter.
There, an increased foot fall will surely increase the levels of appreciation of the wonderful work being done by both management and staff. The core of the group’s work has been repairing and recycling items of furniture. The Main Street move will allow for a cluster of windows of opportunity in which to display its produce. It will also give the fine old building a new sense of purpose. To see the lights on there at the recent Halloween event by the Castleisland Chamber Alliance gladdened many a local heart.
The fact that it is to continue now in different direction will add another chapter to the already intriguing history of The Market House.
