Division one men’s Cup Semi-final St. Mary’s v K. C.Y.M.S
It was a three point shootout to match no other on Saturday when St. Mary’s hosted K.C.Y.M.S. in the division one men’s cup semi-final at Castleisland Community Centre.

No less than 23 three pointers were scored in the game which went down to wire.
The visitors hit two early three’s courtesy of Liam Croke and David McCarthy before top scorer for the game, St. Mary’s Seamus Brosnan, hit the first of five personal three’s for the home team.
Liam Croke responded with another then it was McCarthy with one inside to see Killorglin lead by eight inside the first four minutes.
Two from Two
Brosnan went to the line and secure two from two and Donoghue hit another to bring it back to a one point game.
Shane O’Connell put St. Mary’s ahead for the first time in the game but it was short lived as Ewan Weldon entered the game and hit the target on his first attempt.
Adam Donoghue responded by hitting one from outside. Killorglin were on foul trouble and St. Mary’s Seamus Brosnan and Nathan Nolan took full advantage leaving nothing behind from the free throw line.
The quarter ended on a score line of 21 to 19 in favour of St. Mary’s.
It was possession Killorglin at the start of the second period but they failed to find the target and a Shane O’Connell rebound set Brosnan up for a three.
He hit another inside the first minute and a Michéal Cahill rebound set Nolan up for another to see the home team go up 10 points inside the first 75 seconds of the quarter.
Gap Reduced
KCYMS took a time out to regroup and came back more focused with Declan Wall and Conor Flynn making scores to reduce the gap to five.
Nolan and McCarthy exchanged scores before a three from Ingnas Siganas brought it back to a two point game and a score from McCarthy saw the side level again.
St. Mary’s Adam Donoghue turned the tables again with another big one from outside, his third of the game so far.
Some great passes from Brosnan to Cahill to David Lynch saw Lynch register his first score of the game and the home side were back up seven with 2.41 on the clock.
Shane O’Connell, who was doing well under the boards at both ends added a basket for Mary’s but Killorglins Conor Flynn added his second three.
Scores were exchanged but as the clock ran down Adam Donoghue ensured his side a nine point lead at the interval by hitting yet another from the perimeter.
Uneventful Quarter
The third quarter was uneventful for the first three minutes. It was Castleisland’s Seamus Brosnan who hit the first score of the quarter and the first four scores for his side to give him a tally of eight for the quarter while Adam Donoghue added five more.
KCYMS outscored the home side by two points with a spread of scores from Sijanas, Wall who was also on target from outside, McCarthy and Weldon.
The teams entered the final ten minutes with the home team leading 57 points to 50. Wall opened with a three for Killorglin to reduce the gap to four.
Shane O’Connell made the first score of the final quarter from the line while Declan Wall made the first score from play, another three, his third.
Battle Went On
O’Connell and Wall exchanged scores netting eight and six respectively. Both sides exchanged scores at the quarter progressed and mid way through only four points separated the sides, St. Mary’s still holding their lead.
A spectacular three from Seamus Brosnan put Mary’s up seven points again with just over three minutes to go but Killorglin’s David McCarthy duly responded.
The battle went on as the clock ran down and St. Mary’s went on to secure a place in the final on a score line of 76 points to 68.
